According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), on average U.S. colleges spend $14 billion on energy, while K-12 schools spend about $8 billion annually. Schools and universities spend a large portion of their yearly budget on electricity, which displaces funds that could be better spent on improving educational resources, hiring more teachers, and improving educational infrastructure.
